News Topical, Digital Desk : The Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the southwest monsoon has reached the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday and it will hit Kerala on 27 May. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms and rain in 14 states including Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The Meteorological Department said that a cyclone-like situation is developing over the Andaman Sea. This may lead to the formation of a low pressure area between 16 and 22 May, and heavy rains may occur in the coastal areas of Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh between 24 and 26 May.

Where will the clouds rain

  • According to the Meteorological Department, South Peninsular India and adjoining Central India are likely to receive rains accompanied by thunderstorms during the next 4 days, while heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu during the next 3-4 days.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Northeast India during the next 4 days and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 3 days. Severe heatwave is likely over Uttar Pradesh during 15-18 May, over West Rajasthan during 15-17 May.
     
  • During next 4 days, heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh at 11 am on 17th and 18th, heavy rainfall at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 15th, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on 15th and 16th.
     
  • Thunderstorms and strong winds are likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada during 15-18 May. Light/moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places over Gujarat on 15 May. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra along with strong winds.
     
  • Scattered to light/moderate rains with thunderstorms, strong winds are likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe. Strong winds are likely over Telangana during 15-16th.
     
  • Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during 15-16th May. Hailstorm is also likely at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka during 15-18th May, Rayalaseema on 16th and 18th May, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on 15th May.
     
  • Light rain and strong winds are likely over East and Central India during next 4 days over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
     
  •  On May 15, strong winds will blow over Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, heavy rains are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Heavy rains are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during May 15-17. 
     
  • Northwest India will receive light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh during May 18-20, along with gusty winds and lightning is likely over Punjab, Haryana on May 16, Uttarakhand on May 15 and 16, East Rajasthan on May 17 and 18.
     
  • Heat wave conditions are likely over some areas of West Uttar Pradesh during 15-18 May. Hot and humid weather is likely over East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan during 15-17 May and over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on 15 May. Hot and humid weather is likely over Bihar during 15 and 16 May and over Odisha during 16-18 May. Hot night weather is likely over some areas of East Madhya Pradesh on 15 May.

No chance of cyclonic storm

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has strongly denied reports of the formation of "cyclonic storm Shakti" over the Bay of Bengal. In a clarification issued on Wednesday, the IMD said that the possibility of pressure formation in the Bay of Bengal in the next 168 hours is "zero", and no cyclone formation has been forecast.
