News Topical, Digital Desk : The court of Special Judge (MP-MLA) Yajuvendra Vikram Singh pronounced the verdict on Wednesday in the murderous attack on former Jaunpur MP Dhananjay Singh and his companions in broad daylight in the Nadesar area of Varanasi 24 years ago.
The court, giving the benefit of doubt as the charges were not proved, acquitted the accused MLA Abhay Singh, Sanjay Singh Raghuvanshi, Satendra alias Bablu Singh, Sandeep Singh alias Pappu, Vinod Singh and MLC Shyam Narayan Singh alias Vineet Singh.
The prosecution alleged that on October 4, 2002, former Jaunpur MP and then MLA Dhananjay Singh, along with some of his companions, were returning to Jaunpur in a Safari car at 6 pm after visiting a family member admitted in the hospital.
Abhay Singh acquitted in mint case
As soon as his Safari car reached near Taksal Cinema Hall located in Nadesar area, Abhay Singh, who was already present there, along with his associates, got down from the Safari and Bolero cars and started firing indiscriminately at Dhananjay Singh with the intention of killing him.
His gunman opened fire in self-defense. Meanwhile, a police vehicle arrived at the scene, and Abhay Singh and his companions fled in their vehicle toward the courthouse.
In this attack, the then MLA Dhananjay Singh, gunner Vasudev Pandey, driver Dinesh Kumar Gupta and others were injured.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted, causing a stampede. Police arrived at the scene and admitted Dhananjay Singh and his companions to Singh Medical Hospital in Maldahiya for treatment.
A case was registered at the Cantt police station.
In this case, Dhananjay Singh filed a named complaint against Abhay Singh and others at the Cantt police station. After completing the investigation, the Cantt police filed a charge sheet against Abhay Singh, Sanjay Singh Raghuvanshi, Satendra Singh alias Bablu, Sandeep Singh alias Pappu, Vinod Singh, and current MLC Shyam Narayan Singh alias Vineet Singh in court on December 14, 2002. Dhananjay Singh was the MLA from the Rari assembly constituency at the time of the incident.
