News Topical, Digital Desk : As soon as the results season started, pressure was seen on the market. During the week, major indexes and the broad market declined. During this period, Sensex and Nifty fell by more than one percent, while the broad market declined by half to one percent. Stock specific action continued during the week and many stocks also registered gains amid the decline.

How was the trading this week?

This week, the Sensex fell 932.42 points or 1.11 percent and closed at 82,500.47. At the same time, the Nifty 50 fell 311.15 points or 1.22 percent and closed at 25,149.85. Among the broad market indices, the BSE small-cap index fell 0.6 percent, while the BSE mid-cap and large-cap indices fell 1 percent each. The two-week rally in the mid and small-cap indices has come to a halt this week, while the large-cap continued to decline for the second consecutive week. Talking about the sectoral front, the BSE telecom index recorded the highest decline of 4.4 percent, the IT index fell by more than 3 percent. Consumer durables declined 2.7 percent. BSE Metal, Energy, Auto, PSU Bank, and Oil & Gas indices declined by 2 percent each. BSE FMCG index rose by 2 percent, while Power index rose by 0.6 percent. During the week, FIIs continued selling for the second consecutive week and sold shares worth Rs 4,511.12 crore. On the other hand, DIIs continued buying for the 12th consecutive week and bought shares worth Rs 8,291 crore. 

Where did the earnings come from? During the week, around 30 stocks rose by 10 percent or more. More than 5 stocks rose by more than 15 percent. 2 stocks rose by more than 20 percent. On the other hand, the number of stocks that declined by more than 10 remained in single digits. Peninsula Land saw the highest gain; the stock rose by more than 39 percent. Jaiprakash Power Ventures rose by more than 21 percent. John Cockerills India rose by more than 19 percent. Other stocks that registered gains of 15 to 20 per cent in the week include Dish TV, Shiva Cement, Force Motors. Stocks that registered gains of 10 to 15 per cent include Lemon Tree Hotels, Flair Writing, SML Isuzu, Gabriel India, Religare Enterprises, PC Jeweller, Venus Pipes, Medi Assist Healthcare, Transport Corporation.
