News Topical, Digital Desk : Maria Corina Machado of Venezuela has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2025. However, since the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize, Maria's name has been embroiled in controversy. Maria is considered a major supporter of Israel's bombing of Gaza. She also supports seeking help from foreign powers to overthrow the government in her own country.

Maria, a well-known figure in Venezuela's opposition party, has also played a key role in the pro-democracy movement. Yesterday, the Nobel Committee announced her nomination for the Peace Prize. According to the Nobel Committee, Maria will be awarded the prize for promoting democracy and standing firmly against dictatorship in Venezuela.

Why did Maria get the Nobel Prize?

After Maria received the Nobel, the White House criticized the decision, accusing it of putting politics above peace. However, Maria later dedicated the Nobel to Donald Trump, who then expressed his happiness for her.

Maria is being criticized

However, many are criticizing the Nobel Committee's decision. There are several important reasons behind this. Maria is a staunch supporter of Israel. She has repeatedly justified the Israeli attack on Gaza. Many examples of this can be seen in her old social media posts.

In a post two years ago, Maria wrote that "Venezuela's struggle is like Israel's." She even said that if she came to power, she would fully support Israel's independence.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a US-based Muslim rights organization, has urged the Nobel Committee to reconsider its decision. "The Nobel Committee should reconsider. Awarding Maria this prize could severely damage the Nobel's reputation," the organization said.

Additionally, Maria has sought the help of foreign powers to effect a regime change in her own country. In 2018, she wrote to Israel and Argentina, urging them to remove Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from office.
