News Topical, Digital Desk : Madhya Pradesh is known as the Tiger State because it has the largest number of tigers in the country. The increasing number of tigers here is a cause for concern due to the increasing number of tiger deaths.
In a written response to a question from Congress MLA Lakhan Ghanghoria, the government acknowledged that 147 tigers, including cubs, died in the last five years. Of these, 87 tigers died in mutual conflict. Sixteen tigers also died due to electrocution and poaching.
A special force was proposed to be created in the state to protect tigers, but this work also failed. The written reply revealed that according to the 2018 tiger census, there were 526 tigers and tigresses in the state.
According to the 2022 tiger census, this number has increased to 785. This represents a 49 percent increase in the tiger population. From 2021 to 2025-26, 147 tigers, female tigers, and cubs have also died. This includes 27 deaths each in 2021 and 2022, 32 in 2023, 29 in 2024, and 32 in 2025.
