With the aim of reducing dependence on fossil fuels for public road transport and promoting environmental protection, the Yogi government is placing special emphasis on the operation of electric buses. Following the successful operation of e-buses for limited distances within the city, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UP Roadways) has now developed a plan to operate e-buses for medium and long distances. Under this plan, 20 new electric buses will operate from two major bus stations in Gorakhpur on various important routes, including Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Sonauli.
Buses will run to several important destinations.
The decision to operate e-buses from Gorakhpur to several other important destinations is being considered a major step by the Yogi government towards promoting eco-friendly transportation. UP Roadways has received new e-buses to operate on the routes from Gorakhpur to Sonauli, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Ballia, and Tamkuhiraj on the Nepal border.
According to Luv Kumar Singh, regional manager of UP Roadways, Gorakhpur has received 20 e-buses in the first phase of eco-friendly transportation. Nine of these buses will run to Varanasi and three to Ayodhya. The number of buses for Ballia, Sonauli, and Tamkuhiraj is also being determined based on needs. Charging stations are the most important requirement for operating electric buses. A high-tech charging station has been completed in Raptinagar.
Charging station ready
The regional manager stated that after the charging station was built, trials of e-buses have begun on the Ayodhya, Sonauli, and Tamkuhiraj routes. This is being done to determine the actual distance the e-buses can travel once fully charged. Based on the results so far, the e-buses can cover approximately 250 kilometers in one trip. Following the trials, Roadways will release a timetable for the buses' regular operation within the next ten days.
A route chart will be prepared as per the wishes of CM Yogi.
In accordance with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath 's vision, the route chart for electric buses will be designed to provide stronger connectivity to all important cities and tourist destinations in Purvanchal. The operation of e-buses will ensure comfortable and pollution-free travel for passengers. Furthermore, due to fuel savings, the Transport Corporation will pass on the benefits to passengers in the form of lower fares. The average base fare for regular buses is ₹1.93 per km, while the average base fare for e-buses is estimated to be ₹1.63 per km. Simply put, passengers will save ₹30 per 100 km compared to regular buses.
