This incident is shocking
The legendary singer passed away on February 6, 2022 , leaving a lasting void in the music industry. There are many unknown aspects of Lata Tai's life, and one of the most shocking incidents was when she was poisoned.
The singer was given 'poison'
Many thought Lata Mangeshkar would never be able to sing again because she was bedridden for three months. Speaking to Nasreen Munni Kabir for the book "Lata Mangeshkar in Her Own Voice," the legendary singer opened up about the time she was poisoned.
Speaking about it, Lata said, “We Mangeshkars don't talk about this because it was a very bad phase in our lives. In 1962, I was very ill for about three months. One day, I woke up feeling very uneasy in my stomach. Then I started vomiting – it was terrible, the vomit was green. The doctor came and they even brought an X-ray machine to the house because I couldn't move. They X-rayed my stomach and said I was being slowly poisoned.”
accusation against servant
Upon hearing the news of Lata's poisoning, her sister Usha went straight to the kitchen and told everyone that from now on, she would cook for Lata Tai instead of the servants. Upon hearing Usha Mangeshkar's instructions, a servant immediately left without taking his money. The family learned that someone had sent the servant there. In the same conversation, Lata Mangeshkar revealed that she had found out the person who had poisoned her, but she hadn't taken any action against him.
Lata didi's voice was not lost
Lata Mangeshkar said, "Yes, we found out who he was. But we didn't take any action because we had no evidence against him." During the conversation, Lata Mangeshkar also addressed the misconception that Lata Tai lost her voice due to poisoning. She dismissed this as a rumor.
The singer further said, “This is not true. This is a fabricated story about me being slowly poisoned. No doctor told me I wouldn't be able to sing. In fact, our family doctor, Dr. R.P. Kapoor, who treated me, said he wanted to see me recover. But I want to clear up the misconceptions that have been spread over the years: I didn't lose my voice. But yes, it was confirmed that I was being slowly poisoned.”
It was composer Hemant Kumar who recorded the first song with Lata Mangeshkar after her recovery. Breaking all myths, Lata Tai went to the studio and sang "Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil" for the film "Bees Saal Baad," a song that won her her second Filmfare Award.
