News Topical, Digital Desk : Aditya Birla Group Chairman and billionaire businessman Kumar Mangalam Birla is the special guest on Amitabh Bachchan's popular quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, on Sony TV . This is his first time appearing on a Hindi television show.
Kumar Mangalam Birla shared many unheard stories about his father, Aditya Vikram Birla, and explained the conditions under which he allowed him to join his business. Furthermore, he spoke about Ratan Tata's relationship with his family and recalled a time when Tata stood by him during his most difficult times.
Aditya Birla had set rules for his son
Kumar Mangalam told Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati that his father had made it a rule since childhood that he would have to start from the very bottom. A surprised Amitabh Bachchan said to him , "One thing we learned from your father is that everything should start from the bottom, but the family you were born into asked you to do the same, is that a bit unbelievable?"
After listening to Amitabh Bachchan, the business tycoon said, "Amit ji, I thought that after graduation, I would go to my father's office and start working. My father told me that this is not possible, you will have to become a CA. CA is difficult, I felt as if I was seeing all my dreams and hopes falling out of the window at that time. I also stood firm and told my father that I will do MBA, not CA. "
Papa said – there is no space in my office
Recalling his father's words, he further said, "He told me bluntly that if I don't become a CA, there's no work for me in his office. I went crying to my grandfather and asked him to save me from this. My grandfather told me that he couldn't help me. When I told my mother, she bluntly told me that I had to do it, either do it with tears or do it with a smile."
Ratan Tata question asked for Rs 2 lakh
In the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan asked Kumar Mangalam, owner of the Birla Group of Industries, in which of these subjects did Ratan Tata get a degree from Cornell University? Big B gave him four options and Kumar Mangalam chose option A) Architecture, which was the correct answer. During this, Big B also asked Kumar Mangalam about the relationship between him and Ratan Tata's family, to which the businessman replied, "Amit ji, there has been a very close relationship between our family and the Tata family."
He said, "JRD Tata and my great grandfather were friends. There was a time when Birla held more shares in Tata's company than Tata . There was such a trusting relationship between the two families. Ratan Tata was also a good friend of my father. During Papa's funeral, he told me to always remember that you can see your friend in me. With his passing last year, we have lost a true son of India."
Amitabh Bachchan also remembered the moments spent with Ratan Tata.
While talking to Kumar Mangalam, Amitabh Bachchan also recalled the old moments he spent with Ratan Tata. Recalling an incident, he said, "Sometimes we used to joke with him. Sometimes we would sit outside and have to go on stage for an interview, and he would always tell me, 'I will come after you.' I didn't like it and I always wondered how to convince him. I would jokingly tell him, 'Ratan ji, age comes before beauty.'"
Who is Kumar Mangalam Birla ?
For those unaware, Kumar Mangalam Birla is a renowned Indian billionaire and chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group. His wife, Neerja Birla , is a philanthropist who also comes from a business family. Besides being involved in her husband's business, she is also the founder and chairperson of an education trust. They have two daughters, Ananya Birla and Advaitesha Birla , and a son, Aryaman Birla .
Coming from a business family, Ananya Birla is a well-known name in the music industry and also manages her father's business. Advaitesha Birla is pursuing her psychology studies in London. Kumar Mangalam's son is a former Indian cricket player who won the Ranji Trophy. He has also played for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. However, now away from cricket, he is helping his father with his business.
