News Topical, Digital Desk : A ninth-grade student of a private residential school in Karnataka killed his classmate. Police said the incident occurred in the school hostel on Saturday night.
He attacked eight classmates with a sharp object and an iron rod, leaving one student dead and seven hospitalized.
According to police, the deceased boy was from Andhra Pradesh. The body has been sent to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari for a postmortem.
9th class student attacked
Ballari Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) P.S. Harsha said, "On Saturday night, nine students were under the supervision of a social science teacher, who is also the hostel warden. The accused, in a fit of rage, suddenly attacked them, resulting in the death of one student and seven others who are currently undergoing treatment."
Speaking to reporters, the IGP said, "The teacher's statement has been recorded and preliminary investigations are underway. Scene of crime officers and teams from the Forensic Science Laboratory have also visited the spot."
The IGP further stated, “This case is considered to involve a minor under the law, which is against the law. Therefore, the investigation should be conducted sensitively under the Juvenile Justice Act, taking into account the safeguards in place for the accused.”
According to media reports, the students were sleeping in the hostel after dinner when the accused boy attacked his friends with an iron rod and a sharp object.
