News Topical, Digital Desk : The Kanpur police in Uttar Pradesh have launched their largest and most high-tech crackdown yet against drug traffickers. Under "Operation White Powder" in the Sachendi police station area, the police not only dismantled a major marijuana smuggling network but also effectively utilized modern technology like drones to flush out the criminals from their hideouts.
This joint and highly confidential operation was carried out under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sumit S. Ramteke and IPS Sumedh M. Jadhav. For this raid, over 70 personnel from the Crime Branch, Sachendi Police Station, Panki Police Station, and the Reserve Police Force established a tight cordon around the entire area. Police used drone cameras for aerial surveillance. As soon as the drones identified the suspected location of the smugglers, the personnel launched a simultaneous raid, leaving the smugglers no chance to escape.
8 arrested including 7 women, daily sale of lakhs
In this surprise raid, police arrested seven women and one man. These individuals had been involved in the illegal business of making and selling small packets of marijuana in the area for a long time. Police investigations revealed the shocking fact that marijuana worth ₹400,000 to ₹500,000 was being sold daily in this residential area. During the search, police recovered over 3 kilograms of illegal marijuana and ₹92,000 in cash.
'Breaking the back of the drug network'
Commenting on this successful operation, ADCP Crime Sumit S Ramteke said, "We had been receiving reliable information about the sale of illegal drugs in Sachendi and surrounding areas for a long time. Under 'Operation White Powder,' we used drone technology for the first time to pinpoint the smugglers. A large amount of cash and marijuana was recovered in this operation. We have broken the backbone of this entire drug network, and such operations will continue."
