Whereas, Sharadiya Navratri is celebrated in the Shukla Paksha. Many major festivals including Dussehra, Ekadashi and Sharad Purnima are celebrated in the Shukla Paksha.
Jitiya is celebrated during Pitru Paksha. It is also called Jivitputrika Vrat. Married women keep this fast for the long life of their son. Jitiya fast is kept for getting a child. When is Jitiya fast celebrated?
Jitiya is celebrated every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This festival is celebrated with great pomp in many parts of Nepal including Bihar and Jharkhand. On this day, married women observe Nirjala fast.
When is Nahai Khay? (Jitiya Vrat Nahai Khay)
Jitiya Vrat is observed every year on Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. Nahai-Khai is celebrated a day before this, i.e. on Saptami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This year Nahai Khaai is on 13th September. On this auspicious occasion, women fasting worship Jimutvahan ji after taking bath and meditation. After this, they take food. On the day of Nahai-Khai, Madua ki roti and Noni ki saag are eaten. Along with this, curd and poha (chura) are also eaten.
When is Jitiya Vrat (Jitiya Vrat Shubh Muhurat)
Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month is on 14th September. For this, Jitiya fast will be kept on 14th September. Sometimes due to difference in the date, Jitiya fast is also of 36 hours. This year Nirjala fast will be kept for one day. At the same time, the fasting women consume satvik food and water before sunrise.
When will the Parana be done? (Jitiya Vrat Parana Vidhi)
According to the Vedic calendar, Ashtami Tithi will end on September 15 at 03:06 am. After this, Navami Tithi will begin. Jitiya Vrat is observed on Navami Tithi. Thus, the fasting person can observe Parana after sunrise on September 15.
