News Topical, Digital Desk : Impressed by the Jan Suraj Party, people from other parties are continuously joining it. In this process, the JDU has suffered a setback in East Champaran. On Wednesday (September 17, 2025), Meena Dwivedi, a three-time MLA from the Govindganj Assembly constituency in East Champaran district, joined the Jan Suraj Party along with hundreds of her supporters.
Prashant Kishore welcomed
Accompanied by several JDU district and block-level officials, workers, and hundreds of his supporters, he met with Prashant Kishore, the architect of Jan Suraj. He pledged his support to the party. Prashant Kishore enrolled everyone in Jan Suraj membership and welcomed them with a yellow scarf.
Who is Meena Dwivedi?
Meena Dwivedi belongs to a prominent political family in East Champaran district. In 1995, her brother-in-law, Devendra Nath Dubey, became an MLA from the Samata Party. Her husband, Bhupendra Nath Dubey, also became an MLA in the 1998 by-election. Then, in the February and November 2005 assembly elections and the 2010 assembly elections, Meena Dwivedi herself became an MLA from the JDU. Her support will strengthen the Jan Suraj Party's position in Champaran politics.
Sunil Mani is the MLA from Govindganj.
It should be noted that the Govindganj assembly seat, from which Meena Dwivedi has been a three-time MLA, is currently held by Sunil Mani Tiwari of the Bharatiya Janata Party. It remains to be seen whether this seat goes to the JDU or the BJP retains it. This will be known only after the seat-sharing process.
Sunil Mani Tiwari won the seat in 2020 by defeating Brajesh Kumar of the Congress Party. Now, it remains to be seen how Meena Dwivedi's entry into the party will impact the party's fortunes, with Jan Suraj also in the fray. Whether Meena Dwivedi will receive a Jan Suraj ticket after joining the party is a significant question.
