News Topical, Digital Desk : Renowned screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar has strongly criticized the reception accorded to Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi during his visit to India.

He expressed embarrassment, calling it a move that honors a representative of the world's most dangerous terrorist organization. Muttaqi is on a six-day visit to India, his first since the Taliban captured Kabul in 2021.

Akhtar wrote on the social media platform X, "When I see that people who raise their voice against terrorism are giving respect and welcome to the representative of an organization like Taliban, my head hangs in shame."

He also criticized Darul Uloom  Deoband, a prominent Islamic seminary in South Asia, located in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, for its "respectful reception" of Muttaqi .

Deoband targeted

Akhtar specifically questioned the attitude of Deoband, where  Muttaqi was honored as an "Islamic hero." He said this was the same Taliban that had completely banned girls' education in Afghanistan.

Akhtar wrote in his post, "Deoband should be ashamed that they welcomed a person who is one of those who banned girls' education. My Indian brothers and sisters, what is happening to us?"

The visit was made possible by the relaxation of the Taliban travel ban.

Muttaqi  's visit was made possible after the UN Security Council's Taliban Sanctions Committee granted him a travel ban. Muttaqi was listed by the UN on January 25, 2001, under a travel ban, asset freeze, and arms embargo.
