Story related to Chhappan Bhog

According to the legend, the people of Braj were busy in a special event to please the King of Heaven Indra. Then little Krishna asked Nand Baba what kind of event are these Brajvasis going to organize? Then Nand Baba said that with this worship, Devraj Indra will be pleased and will bring good rain. On this, Bal Krishna said that rain is Indra's job, so what is the need of worship in this?

If we have to worship, then we should worship Govardhan mountain from which people get lots of fruits and vegetables and there is a provision of fodder for animals. In such a situation, the people of Braj liked these words of Krishna and they started worshiping Govardhan mountain instead of Indra. There is a famous story related to the worship of Govardhan mountain in which the king of gods Indra became very angry. In his anger, he started raining heavily in Braj. The people of Braj were frightened by this rain and went to Nand Baba.

Then Lord Krishna lifted the entire Govardhan mountain (Govardhan Puja legend) with the finger of his left hand and saved the people of Braj by taking them under his protection. According to the legend, Shri Krishna kept the Govardhan mountain lifted without eating or drinking anything for seven days, due to which the rain stopped and the people of Braj could come out safely.

During this time, everyone noticed that Krishna did not eat anything for seven days. Then everyone asked mother Yashoda how she feeds her Lalla. Mother Yashoda told that she feeds Krishna eight times a day. The people of Braj prepared and brought eight dishes each day from their homes for seven days, which Krishna liked very much. This tradition started Chhappan Bhog, and it is believed that offering 56 bhogs makes Lord Krishna very happy.
