Jammu: Heavy rain on Wednesday morning caused heavy damage in many parts of Jammu division. A 60-year-old woman died after a kutcha house collapsed in Rajouri. A flood-like situation arose in Masu Nala in Pader area of ​​Kishtwar.

The flow of water was so fast that the Gulabgarh-Machail road was closed in Masu village. Devotees were stuck on both sides. The pilgrimage was disrupted for about two and a half hours. Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, devotees from Himachal and Punjab also come for the pilgrimage. Meanwhile, Jammu received the first heavy rainfall of this season and the entire city was affected by the rain.

Drains overflowed in low lying areas, due to which water entered the mohallas, streets and more than 200 houses and shops. Traffic remained blocked for hours due to debris and stones falling from the mountain at two places on the Panchtirthi-Sidhda road. Rivers and drains including Tawi were also in spate.

On the other hand, the weather remained dry in most parts of Kashmir including Srinagar, while it rained in many areas of North and South Kashmir. This time the weather in Kashmir has remained hot continuously. The maximum temperature of Srinagar was recorded at 31.1 degrees and that of Jammu at 30.5 degrees.

The weather threat is not over yet

According to the Meteorological Center Srinagar, rain has been continuing at many places since Monday. There is a possibility of heavy rain at many places and cloudburst at some places till August 15. In view of the weather, the administration has asked people to stay away from rivers and streams.

People have also been asked to maintain distance from landslide-prone areas. It has been advised to contact the traffic control room before going on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Mughal Road. If there is no urgent work, one should also avoid travelling towards hilly areas.

How much rain fell where

In the last 24 hours, Rajouri district recorded the highest rainfall of 74 mm. Jammu recorded 71.5 mm, Banihal 5.8 mm, Batote 1.4 mm, Katra 4.3 mm rainfall. Due to the rain, there was a slight relief from humidity. The maximum temperature of Jammu was 30.5 degrees.

The maximum temperature of Banihal was 29.4, Batote 27.1, Katra 28.4 and Bhaderwah 31.2 degrees. The maximum temperature of Srinagar was 31.1, Gulmarg 21.0 and Pahalgam 27.8 degrees. The maximum temperature of Leh was recorded at 26.5 degrees. Thus, Srinagar was hotter than Jammu.
