News Topical, Digital Desk : Puri Jagannath Temple Calendar 2026: The Lord Jagannath Temple administration in Puri, Odisha, apologized to the public on Wednesday. It has banned a calendar that incorrectly depicts Lord Jagannath, Baladeva, and Subhadra seated on the Ratna Throne inside the magnificent 12th-century temple.

The Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) stated that the images published in the 2026 calendar were inspired by a century-old palm leaf manuscript preserved in the Odisha State Museum. They added that the artwork featured on the calendar reflects the style of the artist of that period and is not intended to offend religious sentiments in any way.

Temple authorities ban calendar sales

The decision was made following widespread outrage in the state over the calendar's depiction of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra, which were not in accordance with temple traditions. Temple administrators have directed officials to halt the sale of the calendar and publicly apologize for the administration's inadvertent mistake.

In fact, the table, wall, and calendars issued by the temple administration featured the wrong image. The image depicted Balabhadra instead of Lord Jagannath, which is against tradition. BJD spokesperson Mohanty said the SJTA did not consult experts before using the old artwork.

After what mistakes was the decision taken?

Speaking of errors in the calendar, there are several that have led to its sale being banned. One is the misplacement of images of the Trinity.

It also has a picture of an old Rath Yatra, in which the Darpadalan chariot of Goddess Subhadra is being pulled first, followed by the Nandighosha chariot of Lord Jagannath and finally the Taladhwaj chariot of Balabhadra.

Another mistake is that the images of the Trimurti have been displayed incorrectly. Balabhadra's image is displayed instead of Lord Jagannath's, and Lord Jagannath's image is displayed where Balabhadra's image should have been. These mistakes have drawn strong criticism from many, including temple servants.
