News Topical, Digital Desk : The Israeli government has approved a proposal to continue military occupation of Gaza City, the largest city in the Palestinian-dominated Gaza Strip. But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel has no intention of interfering with Gaza's power.

Israeli cabinet passed the proposal

Netanyahu had earlier hinted at a plan to occupy the entire Gaza Strip. Israel's latest decision is being strongly opposed in and outside Israel. It has been said that this plan of the Israeli government will have disastrous consequences. By the way, after 22 months of war, 75 percent of the Gaza Strip is currently under the occupation of the Israeli army.

Israeli army ready to take control of Gaza City

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office has issued a statement saying that the Israeli army is ready to take control of Gaza City and will also distribute food and relief materials among the civilians living outside the fighting areas.

Israel has no intention of interfering with power in Gaza

Netanyahu has said that Israel will take control of Gaza City only for security reasons and it has no intention of interfering in the power there. Israel has no objection if Arabs take over the power of Gaza.

The government has taken this decision to take control of Gaza City after a few days ago army chief Eyal Zamir had expressed reluctance to pursue the operation in Gaza.

Israel will accept the act of occupation of Palestinian territory

In a statement issued on Friday, the Prime Minister's Office said that the majority in the government's political and security affairs ministerial committee has accepted the proposal. It is believed that without this, the goals of defeating Hamas and releasing the hostages cannot be achieved. Whereas Hamas has said that it will consider any such action by Israel as an act of occupation of Palestinian territory and will resist it with full force.

It is noteworthy that under an agreement in 2005, Israel withdrew its army and Jewish population from the Gaza Strip. With this, the Palestinians got control of the place. But due to the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 and the subsequent Israeli retaliation that continued for 22 months, Israeli occupation of Gaza is returning once again.

There is protest in Israel over the government's decision, fearing that the lives of the hostages will be endangered. It is believed that at present about 20 living Israeli hostages are in the custody of Hamas.

Worldwide protests against Israeli decision

In protest against the Israeli decision, Germany has decided to stop all military supplies to Israel. Denmark has condemned the decision and asked Israel to withdraw it immediately. Belgium has summoned the Israeli ambassador in protest against the decision and told him about the adverse effects of occupying Gaza City.

Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned Israel's attempt to take control of Gaza. It has said that Israel's move is against the Palestinian population and an attack on their rights. Turkey's foreign minister has asked him to talk to his Egyptian counterpart about this and prepare a plan of protest.

Israel attacks Lebanon, Palestinian leader killed

Israel once again carried out an airstrike on Lebanon on Friday. In this attack, Muhammad Wishah, the leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine organization, and his driver were killed. This airstrike took place when Wishah was going to Syria in his car.

Six Palestinians killed in firing

At least six Palestinians were killed and more than 140 injured in shelling at the Israeli-run Jikim crossing, where UN aid convoys enter. Dr Mohammad Abu Selmiya, director of Shifa hospital, said all six people were killed in Israeli firing.

A Palestinian witness, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a small group of looters in the crowd disrupted the aid being unloaded from trucks. Israeli soldiers then opened fire on the crowd. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed since May while searching for humanitarian aid.
