An anti-government hacking group in Iran claimed
An Israel-linked anti-Iran government hacking group called 'Gonjeshke Darande or Predatory Sparrow' claimed in a post on Tuesday that it had hacked and destroyed the records of Iran's state-owned bank 'Sepah'. The group said that this bank is helping the Iranian army.
Israel and Iran launched several missile attacks against each other
The hack comes amid growing hostility between Israel and Iran after Israel attacked several military and nuclear sites in Iran last week. Both sides have launched multiple missile attacks against each other since then.
Reuters could not immediately confirm the attack on Bank Sepah. The bank's website was offline on Tuesday and its London-based subsidiary, Bank Sepah International Plc, did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
According to Israeli media, customers were having problems accessing their accounts. Gonjeshke Darande did not respond to multiple messages sent via social media.
