News Topical, Digital Desk : The controversy surrounding French President Emmanuel Macron's wife, Brigitte, continues to deepen. American far-right influencer and political commentator Candace Owens alleged that Macron's wife is not a woman, but a transgender woman.
These allegations caused a stir in French politics. However, Macron denied the allegations and filed a defamation suit against Owens in July. Now, Macron and his wife have decided to present evidence proving Brigitte's identity.
Candace Owens raised the issue
These allegations began in 2021. The allegations that the French First Lady is transgender were first made in a YouTube video by French bloggers Amandine Roy and Natasha Ray. However, Macron won a defamation lawsuit against them in 2024. An appeal was filed in 2025, citing freedom of expression, and the decision was subsequently overturned.
The issue was later seized upon by Candace Owens, who has over 6 million followers on Instagram. Owens even claimed that the French First Lady was born male and that she would risk her entire professional reputation to prove this allegation. Macron has filed a defamation lawsuit against Owens in a Delaware court.
Macron preparing to give evidence
Owens claims that Macron's wife, Brigitte, was born male and named Jean-Michel Trogneau. According to Owens, Jean-Michel Trogneau provided mental support to Macron when he was a teenager. Macron now plans to present photographs and scientific evidence to disprove these allegations.
Speaking to the BBC, Macron's lawyer, Tom Clare, did not specify what kind of evidence this would be. When asked if Macron would provide photographs of Brigitte's pregnancy and childrearing, Tom Clare said that these photographs exist and will be presented in court.
It should be noted that French President Emmanuel Macron is 24 years younger than his wife, Brigid Macron. Brigid Macron is 72 years old. Brigid Macron taught at a high school in Amiens when Macron was a student there. Brigid Macron is the mother of three children.
