Situation normal at Bushehr nuclear power plant
Meanwhile, Russian nuclear energy chief Alexei Likhachev said today that the situation at Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant is "normal" and under control. He also said that hundreds of Russian specialists work there.
Yesterday, the Israeli army had issued a statement that it had carried out a major attack on the Bushehr plant, but later it was said that this comment was made by mistake.
Attack on the plant would create Chernobyl-like conditions
- Likhachev, head of state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, said any attack on the Israeli plant could lead to a Chernobyl-like nuclear disaster.
- Bushehr is Iran's only operational nuclear power plant and uses Russian fuel which Russia takes back when it is used to reduce proliferation risks.
- When asked about the situation in Bushehr on Friday, Likhachev said so far the situation was completely under control.
Putin said- Israel has made a promise to us
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia has 600 employees in Bushehr, including 250 permanent employees and others on temporary appointment. He said that Israel has promised the safety of these employees. However, Likhachev said that some people have been evacuated from there, but the main employees are still there.
