News Topical, Digital Desk : A major news has emerged regarding the ongoing tension between Iran and the US. According to the information, Iran has carried out firing on a ship in Hormuz at 7:55 am. This attack has been carried out at a time when Trump has announced a ceasefire today. According to the British military, Iran's Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a ship in Hormuz just hours after the ceasefire announcement.
UKMTO said – no warning was given before the attack
According to the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre, Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the container ship, without giving any warning before opening fire. However, there were no reports of casualties in the attack.
An Iranian news agency described the attack as a move to legally enforce Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz, and it came after ceasefire talks in Pakistan failed to yield results.
Last week, US forces captured an Iranian container ship by firing on it. They also boarded and intercepted an oil tanker linked to Iran's oil trade in the Indian Ocean.
US blockade of Hormuz halts shipping
According to reports, shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz has largely halted over the past few days amid military sanctions. While the US extended the ceasefire to give Tehran more time for peace talks, Trump also stated that he had "directed his military to continue the blockade of Hormuz."
Trump further wrote on Truth Social, "Iran is being economically weakened by the closure of this vital strait. However, they want the Strait of Hormuz opened immediately." He added that the Islamic Republic is starved for cash.
