News Topical, Digital Desk : India has categorically rejected as "misleading propaganda" the media reports in Bangladesh that there was a protest outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi against the murder of a Hindu man there and an attempt was made to disturb the security environment. On behalf of India, the Ministry of External Affairs said that on Saturday, about 20-25 youths gathered in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in Mymensingh, Bangladesh and raised slogans to protest against the gruesome murder of Dipu Chandra Das. It said that the protesters also demanded the safety of all minorities in Bangladesh. India also urged the interim government in Dhaka to bring the culprits of the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das to justice.
No attempt was made to break the fence
Indeed, some Bangladeshi media reports claimed that young people protesting outside the Bangladesh High Commission attempted to breach the premises' security. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "at no time was there any attempt to breach the fence or disturb the security environment." It also stated that police dispersed the group after a few minutes and that visual evidence of these incidents is publicly available.
India keeping an eye on the situation in Bangladesh
"India is committed to ensuring the security of foreign missions and posts on its territory in accordance with the Vienna Convention," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. "India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Bangladesh. Our officials are in touch with Bangladeshi authorities and have shared our deep concern over the attacks on minorities," Jaiswal said. "We have also urged that those responsible for Das's brutal murder be brought to justice," he said.
The atmosphere deteriorated after Hadi's assassination
Dipu Chandra Das (25) was beaten to death by a mob in the Bangladeshi city of Mymensingh on Thursday. Bangladesh has been in constant unrest since the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent figure in the anti-government protests that led to the downfall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
