News Topical, Digital Desk : Nine building owners arrived at the VDA office on Thursday after the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) posted notices on 65 of the 187 houses being demolished for road widening in Dal Mandi. Expressing their concerns, these owners stated that their houses were very old and their maps were not approved. A debate ensued between municipal officials and the building owners on the issue, but no concrete conclusion was reached, after which the owners returned.
Videy says that if the owners don't submit their house plans within a week, demolition orders will be issued. The Public Works Department (PWD) has registered 47 of the 187 houses and distributed compensation of ₹33 crore. Of these, 15 houses have already been razed, while the demolition process for the remaining is underway.
The Dal Mandi road is to be widened to 17.5 meters up to the Chowk police station. The government has expressed displeasure over the delays and unsatisfactory progress, prompting the district administration, Public Works Department, and VDA to mobilize. The development authority hastily posted notices on 65 houses in Dal Mandi that fall under the road widening project and summoned the owners to the office with approved maps.
The building owners who have been issued notices include Dr. Akbar Ali, Ghulam Raza, Kazim Raza, Masoom Raza, Pyare Hasan, Secretary Anjuman Muslim Musafirkhana, Waf Mohammad Ali Asghar, Jaunat Bibi, and Savivillah Mausama. PWD Executive Engineer KK Singh said that preparations are being made to demolish the houses that are in the widening area before the monsoon season. The VDA has pasted notices on 65 houses and has demanded that the building owners approve the map.
