News Topical, Digital Desk : The people of ancient Greece worshipped many gods and goddesses. Today, we'll tell you about Queen Hera, known in Greek mythology as the Queen of the Gods. Hera was primarily worshipped in Argos, as the goddess of marriage and procreation.

Where was Hera born?

According to Greek mythology, Queen Hera was born on Samos, an island in the eastern Aegean Sea off the coast of modern-day Turkey. The story of the queen of the Greek gods and wife of Zeus is found in Hesiod's Theogony.

Samos was one of the two most prominent sites for the worship of Queen Hera in the ancient Greek world, along with Argos in Mycenae in the Peloponnese.

This is an amazing story

According to Greek mythology, Cronus swallowed his five children as soon as they were born. The reason behind this was a prophecy that predicted one of Cronus' children would usurp his eternal throne on Mount Olympus. He wanted to prove this prophecy wrong. His wife, Rhea, was understandably saddened to see her husband swallow her children.

When Zeus was born to Rhea, she replaced the child with a stone, and Cronus, in his haste, swallowed the fake stone without knowing the difference. Rhea then secretly raised Zeus on the island of Crete. As prophesied, when Zeus grew up, he usurped his father's throne. He drove the Titans from Olympus, leading to a bitter war (the War of the Titans). The Titans were defeated and Zeus was victorious.

This is how Hera became queen

Cronus was given a potion that would cause him to vomit the children he had long held captive in his womb. This caused Hera and the other Olympians to emerge from Cronus' womb. Hera and Zeus were later married, and she became queen of the Olympian gods. Zeus was notorious for his frequent adultery, while Hera was jealous of Zeus's other lovers and their children. Furthermore, Hera often meted out cruel punishments to Zeus' lovers.
