News Topical, Digital Desk : There are many characters in mythology whose stories may surprise you. Today, we'll tell you the story of Guru Shukracharya's rise to become the guru of the demons. We'll also learn the main reason for his hatred for Lord Vishnu.

Reached the ashram of sage Angiras for education

According to the story recounted in the Shiva Purana and other Puranas (Mahabharata and Vamana Purana), Shukracharya was the son of the sage Bhrigu. Bhrigu sent him to the ashram of sage Angiras for education. Sage Angiras's son, Brihaspati, also studied there. Although Shukracharya was far more intelligent than Brihaspati, Sage Angiras still preferred his son. This favoritism was not at all acceptable to Shukracharya.

Shukracharya took this decision

Hurt by this discrimination, Shukracharya decided to leave the ashram and pursue further education under the sage Gautama. Upon completing his education, he learned that the gods had appointed Brihaspati as their "Devguru." This aroused a sense of jealousy towards Brihaspati. Shukracharya then decided that if Brihaspati was the guru of the gods, he would become the guru of the demons, elevating them to their superiority.

That's why he hated Lord Vishnu.

The story of the rivalry between Shukracharya and Lord Vishnu is also very interesting and profound. The reason behind this is that Shukracharya once engaged in rigorous penance to Lord Shiva to obtain the "Sanjeevani Mantra" (the life-giving mantra) so that the demons could triumph over the gods.

In his absence, all the demons hid in the ashram of Shukracharya's mother, Khyati, to escape the attacks of the gods. Khyati provided shelter to the demons and, with her powers, rendered unconscious any god who approached. Ultimately, to protect Dharma, Lord Vishnu was forced to behead Khyati with his Sudarshan Chakra.

Took revenge like this

When Shukracharya's penance was complete, he learned that Lord Vishnu had killed his mother. This enraged him and aroused hatred for Vishnu. He resolved to avenge his mother's death. Subsequently, using the Sanjeevani Vidya (the divine energy of life) he had received from Lord Shiva, Shukracharya revived the dead demons and led a war against the gods.
