News Topical, Digital Desk : A Chinsurah court has convicted a couple in a six-year-old murder case in Hooghly district, West Bengal. The court sentenced Krishna Baul Das and Lakshmi Rai to life imprisonment. They were also fined 5,000 rupees.

Order to give Rs 2 lakh to the mother of the deceased

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Sharma imposed a life sentence and a fine of ₹5,000 on the couple. The court also ordered compensation of ₹200,000 to the deceased's mother.

The murder was committed for Rs 100

According to court sources, Mohammed Anwar (23), a resident of Magraganj, was found lying in a pool of blood in front of a shop in the Kantapukur area of ​​Magra, Hooghly district, on June 7, 2019. Police patrolling the area attempted to rescue him and rushed him to the Mogra Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased's maternal uncle, Ranjit Saw, filed a murder complaint at the local police station the next day. He accused Krishna Baul Das and Laxmi Rai of murdering the young man. During the investigation, an eyewitness told police that he had seen Anwar arguing with the couple. Based on that information, the police arrested the couple and began an investigation.

Witnesses of 24 people recorded

Public prosecutor Subrata Bhattacharya stated that a total of 24 people testified in the case. According to the police, Lakshmi had borrowed 100 rupees from Anwar. When Anwar delayed in returning the money, they quarreled. During this time, Lakshmi's companion, Krishna, crushed Anwar's head with a brick. They fled, leaving him bleeding. After nearly six and a half years, the court has announced the sentence in the case. The deceased youth's family is pleased with the district court's decision.
