News Topical, Digital Desk : Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu today launched a decisive battle against the drug Chitta by initiating a massive public movement in the state. The Chief Minister led an anti-Chitta awareness walkathon from the Ridge to Chaura Maidan in Shimla. People from all walks of life, including students, public representatives, officials, and dignitaries, participated in the walkathon. Before the start of the walkathon, he administered a pledge to those present on the Ridge against drug abuse and drug abuse.
Addressing the crowd at Chaura Maidan, the Chief Minister said that today marks a turning point in Himachal's history. He stated that Himachal Pradesh will meet the challenge against drug trafficking with the power of a mass movement and will never allow smugglers to hide under any circumstances.
'The echo will be heard throughout India'
He said that Chitta-free Himachal is not just a government program. It is a mass movement, a call from the people of the state, and a fight for Himachal's identity. Its voice will be so powerful that its echo will reverberate across the mountains, resonating not only in the state but throughout India. He said that schools will now become not just centers of education but fortresses of culture and security. A new generation will emerge from these fortresses, carrying consciousness, not chitta.
CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that mothers will be the backbone of this movement because when a mother awakens, the entire society is steadfast and awakened. In this fight against chitta, women will take on the form of Goddess Durga and destroy the drug smugglers. He also called on religious organizations to raise their voices against chitta, saying that if everyone spreads the message of ending chitta in Devbhoomi, no one will be able to stop its complete eradication.
The Chief Minister stated sharply that there is no longer any room left in this land of Gods to protect those who sell drugs, who poison the future of children, and who destroy homes. Our police are ready, our government is ready, and most importantly, the public is ready. He said that we want to create a Himachal where drugs are relegated to history books, as an eradicated evil.
'A mass movement that will make the impossible possible has begun'
The Chief Minister said that drug abuse is silently harming our civilization, our culture, and our future. A decisive mass movement against it, making the impossible possible, has begun today. He said that the state government has begun working on three key areas of action against drug abuse: first, spreading awareness about drug abuse; second, taking action against drug mafia to prevent youth from falling into the trap of addiction; and empowering law enforcement agencies to take stronger action against drug mafia.
He said that under the third point, rehabilitation of children affected by the drug addiction will be ensured. He said that young people trapped in the drug addiction are not criminals but need treatment, love, and rehabilitation.
Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu stated that the state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. No one involved in the drug trade, no matter how influential, will be spared. The current state government, upon coming to power, implemented the PIT-NDPS Act, through which individuals repeatedly involved in drug trafficking are being imprisoned. New bills have been passed to treat and rehabilitate drug addicts and prevent organized crime, including drug trafficking. These include provisions for the death penalty, life imprisonment, fines of up to 10 lakh rupees, and confiscation of drug mafia property.
Strict instructions have been given to the police
The Chief Minister said that the state government will soon form a team of 1,000 anti-Chitta volunteers, who will serve as a link between the police and the general public. Strict instructions have been given to the police to map Chitta users and the Chitta mafia down to the Panchayat level. This work has been completed. The state government has formed a Drug De-addiction Prevention and Rehabilitation Board, and a new chapter will be introduced in the school curriculum to raise awareness about drugs. The Chief Minister commended the police department and the participants for organizing the walkathon.
Following the conclusion of the walkathon, the Chief Minister interacted with the participating students and various individuals. He informed the students about the ill effects of drug abuse. He also spoke with parents who had lost their sons to drug abuse and offered them solace.
