He advised the government to conduct it responsibly, not as an event. Jairam Thakur said that any campaign launched by the government should be carried out responsibly. If the government is truly serious about drug abuse and is launching a campaign, it should involve everyone. Campaigns should be serious, not treated as events. Just 5 minutes of photo ops won't help the campaign reach the grassroots.
There is a need to work systematically against drug abuse: Jai Ram Thakur
Jairam Thakur said that there is a need for a planned and systematic approach to combat drug abuse. So far, the campaign has been carried out in an irresponsible manner. He mentioned that the women's group in Bilaspur is fighting against drug abuse.
He said that the Mahila Mandal is guarding their village at night in the bitter cold. A campaign has been launched to catch drug smugglers, but cases are being filed against them, which is unfortunate. Jairam Thakur said that these cases are being filed under pressure from drug smugglers. The government should immediately withdraw the cases filed against the Mahila Mandals.
Counterattacked on allegations of not getting help from the Center
Jairam Thakur countered the government's allegations of lack of central assistance. He said that the central government is providing substantial aid, recently providing ₹602 crore. This year's funds will certainly come as well. However, it is not right for the state government to repeatedly blame the central government.
He said that whether the funds coming from the center are reaching the disaster-affected people is a big question. The Chief Minister was questioned about this in the Assembly, but he did not provide a satisfactory answer.
