News Topical, Digital Desk : A private airline helicopter crashed near the Mount Everest area in Nepal on Wednesday morning. The pilot suffered minor injuries. The Altitude Air helicopter was carrying no passengers. It was en route from Lukla to Lobuchem in the Khumbu region on a rescue mission to rescue stranded tourists.
According to a police officer at the Solukhumbu District Police Office, the helicopter piloted by Captain Vivek Khadka skidded while attempting to land due to heavy snowfall. The helicopter broke into two pieces. The pilot was taken to Lukla for medical examination and is reported to be in stable condition.
Heavy snowfall on Tuesday and Wednesday stranded many trekkers in mountainous areas including Mustang, Annapurna region and Everest region. Meanwhile, a popular mountaineering site on Mount Everest in China's Tibet region has been closed due to heavy snowfall. Zhufeng Peak in Dingri County has been closed until further notice.
