News Topical, Digital Desk : The Sector 43 Crime Unit of the Haryana Gurugram Police has arrested a notorious criminal who was defrauding people in Nepal and India by promising them cheap iPhones. The arrested accused, along with his accomplices, was adept at systematically targeting foreign nationals and orchestrating fraud.

Gurugram Police spokesperson Ashok Kumar said that on December 29th, a Nepali man filed a complaint at Sushant Lok police station stating that some time ago he had met two unknown Indian men in Nepal. These men, claiming to be influential, lured him into buying an iPhone from the US at a low price, and gained his trust.

Cheating by calling in hotel

The victim, at the behest of the accused, traveled from Nepal to India with ₹2 lakh in cash to purchase an iPhone. The accused had already booked a hotel in Sushant Lok, Gurugram, and invited him there on the pretext of delivering the phone. When the victim arrived at his hotel room and went to the bathroom, the accused seized the opportunity and stole ₹2 lakh in cash and a mobile phone from him and fled. They locked the room from the outside.

During the investigation, the Crime Unit arrested one of the perpetrators of the crime in Delhi. The arrested suspect was identified as Mohammad Ghalib Raza (30 years old), a resident of village Pokhrera, Sitamarhi district, Bihar, and currently a tenant in Paharganj, Delhi.

Initial police interrogation of the accused revealed that he is an active member of an organized international racketeering ring. He, along with his associates, lured foreign nationals to India with the promise of cheap electronic gadgets and committed fraud and theft.

He, along with his other accomplices, also committed the theft by defrauding the victim. During police interrogation, it was revealed that he received only 50,000 rupees from the 2 lakh rupees stolen through fraud. He has committed several similar crimes in India and Nepal.

The search for other companions continues.

The police have begun preparations to present the accused in court and take him on remand. During the remand, the police will interrogate him about his other associates. Police spokesperson Ashok Kumar stated that the search for other members of the gang is ongoing and they will be arrested soon. The police have appealed to the public to exercise caution when purchasing cheap electronic goods online or from unknown individuals.
