Then a desire arose in his mind that why not he establish this mountain in Kashi and stay there and worship it. For this, he requested Dronachal mountain to hand over its son Govardhan to him.

Govardhan placed this condition

Dronaachal mountain agreed to Rishi Pulastya's request, but he also became sad due to the separation from his son. Then Govardhan put a condition to go with the sage. According to the condition, wherever Rishi Pulastya would place Govardhan, it would be established there.

Pulastya Rishi accepted Govardhan's condition. Then Govardhan said to the Rishi that I am two yojanas high and five yojanas wide, how will you take me to Kashi. On this the Rishi said that with my austerity power I will lift you on my palm.

The sage forgot his promise

When Braj came on the way, Govardhan mountain desired to stop there. Then it started increasing its weight. When the sage started feeling Govardhan mountain heavy, he thought of resting for a while. The sage forgot his promise and put the mountain down. When he tried to lift the mountain again, Govardhan reminded him of his promise.

Then Rishi Pulastya says that he had forgotten his promise, but even then Govardhan does not move from his place. Due to Govardhan's stubbornness, the Rishi gets angry at him and curses him. While cursing, the Rishi says that you did not let my wish come true, so I curse you that you will get absorbed into the earth bit by bit every day. A day will come when you will completely disappear from the earth.
