News Topical, Digital Desk : Godavari Power & Ispat Limited has announced a major investment plan. The company is focused on expanding its battery storage capacity. Expanding its major plans in the battery energy storage sector, the company has announced an investment of ₹1,625 crore to quadruple the capacity of its new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing project. The project, which is being managed by the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Godavari New Energy Private Limited (GNEPL), will be completed in two phases and will deliver a total annual capacity of 40 GWh.

What's special about the plan?

The company was initially planning to install a 10 GWh unit at a cost of ₹700 crore. This is now being expanded to 20 GWh in the first phase, with an investment of ₹1,025 crore in FY26–27. This will be followed by a second phase in FY28–29, with an additional ₹600 crore investment, expanding the capacity to 40 GWh. The company stated that the availability of a single-line 20 GWh manufacturing unit will provide benefits such as better land utilization, reduced structural costs, and improved operating margins, which is why the project has been expanded. Commercial operation of the 20 GWh facility is expected in the first quarter of FY28. Funding for the project will be a mix of debt from GNEPL and equity raised internally by GPIL.

How did the stock perform? The stock closed at ₹238, up over 2% in Friday's session. The stock's year-high was 290, reached in late October, while its year-low was 145, reached in early March.
