US President Donald Trump on Monday issued a stern warning to Iran, saying that it must forget its dream of nuclear weapons. If it does not do so, then it should be ready for an attack. Trump's warning came at a time when one round of talks on the nuclear deal between Washington and Tehran has been completed and the next round is to be held this Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, "They are misleading us. Iran is deliberately delaying the nuclear deal with the US. Iran should either not take a single step towards nuclear weapons or be prepared for a military attack on Tehran's nuclear sites. Iran should not even dream of nuclear weapons and must forget what it has seen."
Oman is playing the role of mediator
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that a positive response has been given to the request received from Oman to play the role of mediator between both the parties. Italy, as always, welcomes the meeting that brings positive results and this time it is on the nuclear issue. Now the next phase of talks between the two countries will be held in Rome this Saturday. While on Saturday, the first round of talks took place in Muscat between US special envoy Steve Witcalf and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, whose host Oman can also play the role of mediator in the next round of talks. Both the parties had described their talks as positive.
At the same time, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog will visit Iran this week and will probably discuss improving the access of its inspectors to look into Tehran's nuclear program. America and Iran have been working towards a nuclear deal for a long time. US President Donald Trump has been repeatedly threatening that if an agreement is not reached with Iran, he will destroy it with air strikes. While Iranian officials have been warning that they have taken the available uranium close to the level of making weapons and can make nuclear weapons.
Iran's foreign minister to visit Moscow
Ahead of the talks, Araqchi will visit Russia this week to brief Moscow on the latest developments in the talks in Muscat. Moscow is a party to Iran's 2015 deal and has supported Tehran's civilian nuclear programme.
Britain on Monday imposed sanctions on Sweden-based Iranian criminal group Foxtrat Network and its leader Rawa Majed over the regime's attacks on Israel and Jewish targets across Europe. Britain has frozen their assets and banned them from travelling. The US also imposed sanctions on them in March.
