A fire that broke out in an apartment in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, has been brought under control. The NDRF and a hydraulic machine called in from Meerut were used to extinguish the fire. The fire, which broke out in flat number 943 on the ninth floor of Tower D of Ghaziabad's Green Avenue Society, quickly escalated and engulfed six flats one after the other.
No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
Locals say this was a failure of the fire department, as water was unable to reach the ninth floor and the lack of proper access for fire engines made extinguishing the fire difficult. They say that the lack of water supply contributed to the longer extinguishing time. An elderly man was also trapped in the flat, who has been safely rescued. Currently, there have been no casualties and no other people are trapped.
More than a dozen fire engines were present at the scene and continuously tried to control the fire. A hydraulic machine brought in from Meerut also played a vital role in extinguishing the flames. The high altitude hampered rescue and relief operations, but the fire was eventually brought under control.
