News Topical, Digital Desk : Over 505 kg of marijuana was seized from a truck parked near the Mathani toll plaza in the Mauda police station area of Nagpur. The consignment has a market value estimated at approximately ₹27.2 million. Nagpur Rural Police and NDPS teams conducted the operation around 5 a.m. and arrested one suspect.
In fact, at 5 a.m. on February 24th, the Nagpur NDPS team received intelligence that approximately 505 kg of marijuana being transported from Sambalpur, Odisha, to Mumbai would be transiting through Nagpur. Upon receiving the information, the team was dispatched to the Mauda toll booth.
A short distance from the toll booth, near the Aryan Restaurant Dhaba, a 12-wheel truck with number WB 23 B 7992 was found parked in a suspicious condition. Police cordoned off the area, seized the truck, and began questioning the driver.
A big secret was revealed during the search
The arrested driver was identified as Sanjay Yadav. During interrogation, he claimed that the truck was on its way from Sambalpur, Odisha, to Mumbai and was loaded with iron. Police became suspicious of his response and conducted a thorough search of the truck.
During the search, approximately 505 kg of marijuana was recovered from 20 sacks in the truck. Police immediately arrested the accused and confiscated the drugs. The estimated value of the seized marijuana is estimated to be ₹27.2 million.
Investigation continues, search for other accused
According to the police, preliminary investigations have revealed that the marijuana was loaded from Sambalpur, Odisha, and was destined for Mumbai. However, it is unclear to whom this large consignment was intended in Mumbai. Police Sub-Inspector Shivaji Tipurne stated that this major operation was based on intelligence. Police suspect that more individuals may be involved in this smuggling network.
