Always choose such an idol of Ganesha in which he is in a sitting position and his trunk is bent towards the left. Along with this, he should be seated on a mouse in the idol. After cleaning the temple or north-east corner of the house, sprinkle Ganga water there. Along with Ganesha, install Riddhi-Siddhi and keep the Kalash.
Method of installation of Ganesh Ji
On Ganesh Chaturthi, wake up early in the morning and meditate on Lord Ganesha. After bathing and meditating, clean the house and the temple thoroughly. Decorate a pavilion for the installation of Lord Ganesha, for which you can use flowers, rangoli and lamps etc.
After this, take a Kalash and put Gangajal, roli, rice, coins and mango leaves in it and place it in the pavilion. Now spread a green cloth on a stool and place the idol of Ganesha. While sipping water three times, bathe Ganesha with Panchamrit.
After this, light a lamp near the idol and offer clothes, sacred thread, sandalwood, betel nut and fruits and flowers to Ganesh ji. Also offer 21 Durva to Ganesh ji. Along with this, offer his favorite bhog like modak and laddu etc. In the end, all the family members together perform the aarti of Ganesh ji and distribute the prasad.

Gajananam bhootganadisevitam kapitthajambufalcharu bhakshanam.
