If this problem persists, it can damage your food pipe and affect your life. In this article, we will know what is the problem of acid reflux and what are the ways to avoid it.

How to find out which food is causing you problems

There are many food items that  are known to cause acid reflux  . But the effect of each food is different on everyone. So, keep track of your eating habits and note them down to identify your triggers.

Fried foods cause the most problems

The amount of fat is highest in fried foods, which takes more time to digest. Due to fried food, more amount of acid starts forming in the stomach, which causes acid reflux. This causes a burning sensation in the chest and throat.

Eat these things to avoid acid reflux

  • Protein: Instead of fried food, eat things which have less fat content like grilled chicken and baked fish or pulses. These have more protein and less fat content.
  • Whole grains: Instead of eating refined foods with flour and high sugar, take fiber-rich whole grains, such as oats, brown rice , quinoa, wheat. Consuming fiber-rich foods helps digestion and also reduces the risk of acid reflux. It also absorbs excess stomach acid.
  • Pulses and legumes: Include protein-rich foods like beans, lentils and chickpeas in your diet. They are low in fat and also provide relief from reflux. They are rich in iron and protein which makes you feel full and also reduces reflux.
  • Cooked vegetables: Doing this makes the vegetables easier to digest and reduces the problem of acidity, especially compared to raw vegetables. Cooking vegetables also softens the fiber present in them. This does not cause stomach pain or bloating.

Doing this can also be beneficial

  • Eat small meals more often- Eating small meals five to six times a day can help relieve stomach problems. Eating too much at one time can cause heartburn.
  • Avoid sleeping or lying down immediately after eating- If you have eaten a full meal and go to lie down immediately after that, you will have trouble digesting the food properly.
  • Soda drinks increase acid- This causes more acid to be produced in the stomach. Instead of this, keep drinking water in small quantities.
  • Stay active- Sitting in one place can also cause acid reflux. So try to do at least 150 minutes of light exercise a week.
