News Topical, Digital Desk : The rift between China and Japan over Taiwan is deepening. Beijing on Monday slammed Tokyo's plan to deploy missiles on Yonaguni Island, near Taiwan, as extremely dangerous.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Japan's deployment of offensive weapons on islands close to the Taiwan region is a deliberate move to create regional tension and provoke military confrontation.

'Japanese PM's comments dangerous'

He said the move, combined with recent comments on Taiwan by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, was extremely dangerous. "Japanese right-wing forces are moving down the path of militarism and dragging Japan and the entire region toward destruction," Mao said.

What did the Japanese Defense Minister say?

"This deployment could help reduce the possibility of an armed attack on our country. The idea that this will increase regional tensions is not correct," Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said after visiting a military base on the Japanese island of Yonaguni, located 110 kilometers from Taiwan.
