News Topical, Digital Desk : The Ashtalakshmi Temple in Texas, USA, houses a statue of Lord Hanuman, several feet tall. It is the third tallest statue in the United States. However, a controversial statement by a member of Trump's party has sparked controversy in the US. Hindus living in the US have demanded action from the Republican Party.
Republican Congressman Alexander Duncan of Texas has opposed the Hanuman statue, calling it a "false," which has angered Hindu organizations.
Duncan's controversial statement
Sharing a video of the statue, Alexander Duncan wrote on the social media platform X, “Why have we allowed a false statue of a false Hindu god to be installed in Texas? We are a Christian nation.”
Hindu organization came out in protest
Duncan's post has sparked a debate on social media. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) has called Duncan's statement anti-Hindu and inflammatory, calling for action from the Texas Republican Party.
Sharing the post on social media, HAF wrote, “Texas Government, can you discipline your MP? Your party opposes discrimination, but your MP is openly flouting party guidelines. He is spreading hatred against Hindus.”
User started a class
Responding to Duncan's post, a user wrote, "Just because you are not a Hindu, you cannot call it false. The Vedas were written 2000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. This is not an ordinary document. Your Christianity is also influenced by it. It would be better if you do some research on this."
