News Topical, Digital Desk : Based on a verbal complaint from an employee, the Mumbai Central Railway Vigilance team conducted a major operation on Thursday (January 22, 2026) by laying a trap at Kalyan Railway Station. A man named Harish Kamble, posing as a Railway Board Vigilance Inspector, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of 20,000 rupees. Officials said the accused was apprehended on Thursday after a five-hour-long trap operation. 

An FIR has been registered against the accused under sections 318(2) and 319(2) of the IPC.

The complaint was filed by Mangesh Badgujar, a booking clerk at the Kalyan Railway Booking Office. Following this, action was initiated against Harish Kamble. The accused, Harish Kamble, posing as a vigilance inspector with the Railway Board, was demanding 20,000 rupees in exchange for clearing pending payments from the DRM office in Mumbai. Following the verification of the complaint, the vigilance team apprehended him accepting the bribe on the foot overbridge at Kalyan Railway Station at around 2:30 p.m.

Following the investigation, the accused was handed over to the GRP Kalyan for further legal proceedings. An FIR has been registered against the accused under sections 318(2) and 319(2) of the Indian Penal Code.

A case of fake TC was also registered against the accused in 2012.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been posing as a vigilance inspector with the Railway Board for a long time to gain access to senior railway officials. Authorities also uncovered that the accused, Harish Kamble, was using his fake identity to mislead officials and obtain VIP railway quotas. 

It's worth noting that Harish Kamble was previously convicted in a fake TC (ticket checker) case in Dadar in 2012, and was subsequently sentenced. The Kalyan Government Railway Police is currently investigating the case, and the accused has been handed over to them. Officials stated that the investigation is being conducted under the supervision of GRP Station Incharge Pandhari Kande.
