New Delhi: In the 90s, when Salman Khan ruled the hearts of the youth as Prem, Sunny Deol ruled the hearts and minds of the youth as an action hero. In 1996, these two actors came together in the film Jeet and history was created.

Jeet became the third biggest success of that year. Sunny's other films after this were Ghatak and Aamir Khan's Raja Hindustani. Released on August 23, 1996, Jeet was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, while the film was directed by Raj Kanwar.

Jeet was a huge success at the box office. Audiences flocked to the theatres to see Sunny and Salman together. The film ran in theatres for 75 weeks, which is considered a big deal in today's times. The film, made on a budget of approximately 5 crores, did a business of more than 30 crores.

Sunny's dialogues and dance became hits

It was a violent love story, in which Sunny Deol's character was shown to transform from a goon to a lover. Sunny's look was also experimented with a lot in this film. Sunny was seen wearing disheveled clothes and a cloth tied on his head for most of the film.

Her raising her hand and saying 'Aye...' became very famous and is still used by mimicry artists. The other two angles of this love triangle were occupied by Karisma Kapoor and Salman Khan. Tabu played the role of a dancer who silently loves Sunny's character.

The film is also known for Sunny Deol's dance moves on the song Yaara O Yaara. Sunny Deol and Karisma have worked together in only two films in their career - Jeet and Ajay. Both the films were released in 1996.

The film was inspired by Muqaddar Ka Sikandar

If you look at the story of Jeet, it seems to be inspired by Amitabh Bachchan's film Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. In this film released in 1978, Amitabh Bachchan played the same character that Sunny played in Jeet.

Salman was in Vinod Khanna's role, while Tabu played a role similar to Rekha's character. Karisma Kapoor was in Rakhi's role. However, Sunny's character was shown to be more crazy and angry than Amitabh Bachchan's character in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.

These were the top 10 movies of 1996

In the top 10 films of 1996, Raja Hindustani was on the first position, while Sunny's action film Ghatak was on the second position.

Govinda's Saajan Chale Sasural, Nana Patekar-Jackie Shroff's Agnisakshi, Akshay Kumar's Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Ajay Devgn's Jaan, Sunny-Karisma's another film Ajay, Ajay Devgn's Diljale and Suniel Shetty's Krishna were included in the top 10.
