'Enough is enough...', Home Minister lashes out at inmates using phones in Bengaluru Central Jail

News Topical, Digital Desk : Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has taken a tough stand on the use of mobile phones and TVs and radios by inmates in Bengaluru's Central Jail. He has sought a report from Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) B. Dayanand, who was appointed prison chief on July 31st.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara said, “I will not tolerate this nonsense. Enough is enough. Incidents like this should not happen. They claim a shortage of staff, but the staff that are there should at least work properly. If televisions and mobile phones are being brought inside, what good is a jail? We have approved CCTV and jammers.”

Assurance of investigation after video arrives

Parmar said that whoever is responsible for this should be immediately prosecuted and a report should be submitted. A video surfaced yesterday showing an ISIS recruiter, Zuhaib Hamid Shakeel Manna, using his phone and enjoying tea inside the prison. The sound of a radio or television could be heard in the background.

In another video, Umesh Reddy, accused in 18 rape and murder cases, was seen using two Android phones and a keypad phone. A TV was also placed in his barrack. Reddy was sentenced to death, but in 2022, he pleaded for clemency, claiming illness, after which the Supreme Court commuted his sentence to 30 years in prison.

A new video also surfaced

Another inmate, Tarun Raju, was also seen using a phone and cooking inside the prison. Following the video, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured necessary action, and the prison department launched an investigation. State Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated that similar incidents have occurred before.

Another video from the jail is also circulating online. It shows inmates partying with alcohol and snacks. Cut fruit, fried peanuts, and bottles of alcohol are visible in the video, as the inmates dance. However, Dainik Jagran cannot confirm the authenticity of this video.
