News Topical, Digital Desk : The Indian Army on Tuesday detailed ten key milestones to be achieved by 2025. These include post-Operation Sindoor review, new capabilities, technology induction, military diplomacy and indigenisation.

In a detailed statement, the Army said this year marks a clear shift towards being prepared for future warfare, with a focus on precision, use of technology and jointness.

Operation Sindoor was launched in May 2025

The most significant development of the year in the military field was Operation Sadur , which was launched in May 2025 following the Pahalgam terrorist attack by "terrorists supported by the Pakistan Army".

According to the statement, the entire operational plan was prepared by the Military Operations Branch of the Indian Army. The execution was carried out from the Ops Room of the Directorate General of Military Operations, with the Chief of Defence Staff and the three service chiefs in attendance. During the operation, nine terrorist camps across the border were destroyed.

Indian Army neutralizes seven camps

The Indian Army neutralized seven camps, while the Indian Air Force destroyed two. On the night of May 7-10, Pakistan attempted to target military and civilian assets using drones.

Indian Army air defense units successfully neutralized all threats, preventing damage and loss of life. Along the Line of Control, over a dozen terrorist launch pads were destroyed using ground-based weapons, disrupting infiltration routes and terrorist logistics.

 Requested ceasefire from Pakistani counterpart

On 10 May, the Indian Army's Director General of Military Operations requested a ceasefire from his Pakistani counterpart, following which an agreement was reached to stop firing and military action. In terms of long-range firepower, the Army highlighted the progress made with its iconic BrahMos and Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems.

On December 1, a BrahMos unit from the Southern Command, along with elements from the Andaman and Nicobar Command, conducted a combat missile launch, validating its high-speed flight stability and ultimate accuracy. The Army also stated that work is underway for an extended-range BrahMos system.

Pinaka Regiment was activated on 24 June

Two additional Pinaka regiments were activated on June 24. In late 2025, the Army successfully test-fired the Pinaka long-range guided rocket, which has a reported range of approximately 120 km. This test is significant because it enhances the Army's high-precision and long-range strike capability.

In the aviation sector, the Army said it received the first three H-64E Apache helicopters on July 22, with the remaining three arriving in December. Currently, six Apaches are operational, likely to further strengthen the Army's strike capabilities, which pose a serious threat to enemy armored vehicles, including tanks and IFVs.

The Army also announced the rollout of new battlefield formations

The Army also announced the rollout of new battlefield formations. In October, new formations such as Bhairav battalions and Ashni platoons were showcased at a capability demonstration in Rajasthan. The Army said it plans to activate 25 Bhairav commando battalions, as well as Ashni drone platoons in infantry units for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and precision effects.

The new Shakti Baan regiment and Divyastra battery, which are equipped with unmanned systems and lighter munitions to meet future challenges, were also mentioned. In terms of procurement and indigenisation, the Army said the last two years were seen as "years of technology absorption".

91 percent of ammunition is indigenous

It also stated that 91 percent of the ammunition used by the Army is now indigenous. The Army also highlighted progress in digital transformation, stating that an edge data center has been established and several in-house software applications, such as the Equipment Helpline and the Sainik Yatri Mitra app, have been developed.

The statement also mentioned that senior leadership reviews during the Army Commanders' Conference in Jaisalmer in October 2025 focused on grey zone warfare, jointness and innovation.

Army conducted war exercises

The Army also pointed to expanded military diplomacy through major joint exercises with France, the US, Thailand, Australia, Sri Lanka, the UK and the UAE, through which the institution enhanced its interoperability with friendly countries, strengthened combat efficiency in counter-terrorism operations, and strengthened regional partnerships.
