News Topical, Digital Desk : Draupadi's name is also included in Panchkanyas, which also includes the names of Ahalya, Kunti, Tara and Mandodari. Along with being the main character of the Mahabharata, Draupadi is also counted among the strong women of Indian history. But do you know about the story of Draupadi's previous birth? If not, then let's know about it.

How was Draupadi born

According to the story of Mahabharata, King Drupada performed a yagya, due to which he got Draupadi as a daughter and Dhrishtadyumna as a son. Due to being born from a yagya, one of Draupadi's names is Yajni. Draupadi is also called Panchali because she was the daughter of Panchal King Drupada.

Who was Draupadi in her previous life?

According to the legend, in her previous birth, Draupadi was Nalayani, the daughter of King Nala and Damyanti. Nalayani was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and she performed severe penance to please Lord Shiva. Mahadev was pleased with her penance and asked Nalayani to ask for a boon. Then she asked for the boon that she would get a husband with all the virtues. This wish of Nalayani was fulfilled in the next birth as Draupadi, as a result of which she got married to the 5 Pandavas.

How did she become the wife of the 5 Pandavas

In the Mahabharata itself, we find a story that the King of Panchal had organized Draupadi's swayamvar. The condition of this swayamvar was that whichever prince would aim at the eye of a fish after seeing its reflection in the water, Draupadi would accept him as her husband. Arjuna also participated in this swayamvar. Arjuna fulfilled the swayamvar condition by aiming at the eye of the fish, due to which he got married to Draupadi.

Kunti said this without looking

When Arjuna reached Kunti with his other brothers, he excitedly said, "Mother, we have brought something for you." Kunti was busy with some work and without looking she said that whatever you have brought, all five brothers should share it among themselves. Thus Draupadi became the wife of the five Pandavas. Later, Lord Krishna told Draupadi the story of her previous birth and said that marriage with the five Pandavas was a boon she had received in her previous birth.
