News Topical, Digital Desk : Oarfish, known as the doomsday fish, is found in the deep sea. In Japanese folklore, it is considered a sign of misfortune. Generally, it is found 200 to 1000 feet below the sea. But, since May 2025, oarfish has been seen on the surface four times.

This has caused concern all over the world. In fact, whenever this fish is seen on the surface, natural disasters such as earthquake, tsunami, famine or war occur. The appearance of this fish has aroused the curiosity of both the general public and the scientific community.

However, people in the scientific community are looking for possible reasons for these fish coming to the surface. But, there is a discussion in the internet media whether the sighting of oarfish could be a possible warning sign for the future.

It was seen for the first time in Tamil Nadu this year

This fish was first seen in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu (Tamil Nadu discovery) in May. About 7 fishermen caught a giant oarfish about 30 feet i.e. 9 meters long. After its video went viral, strange sightings of this fish have started all over the world.

After this, on June 2, a 3 meter long oarfish was seen on the west coast of Tasmania. After its pictures went online, discussions related to oarfish and natural disaster started intensifying. Then the concern increased further after two oarfish were found on the shores of New Zealand because one of these oarfish did not have a head.

Earthquake in California in 2024

A 12-foot-long oarfish was seen near San Diego on August 10, 2024. The cataclysmic fish has been seen only 20 times in the area since 1901. It is also considered a bad omen there. It is said that seeing it means there is a danger of a tsunami or earthquake. Two days later, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Los Angeles.

Japan was rocked by a tsunami in 2011

In Japan, seeing this fish is considered a bad omen. The most famous incident of the catastrophe fish is related to the terrible earthquake and tsunami of 2011 in Japan.  According to a report by oceanconservancy , before this natural disaster, 20 oarfish were found dead on the seashore. After this, a massive tsunami hit there after an earthquake of 9 magnitude.

In Japan, these waves reached 10 kilometers from the coast. Due to which more than four lakh people had to vacate their homes. At the same time, more than 20 thousand people lost their lives. Also, an explosion took place in the Fukushima nuclear power plant 24 hours after the earthquake, after which the situation became even worse.

People in Japan are scared about July 5

After this incident, the belief that oarfish may have some mysterious connection with geological movements got stronger. Recently, Ryo Tatsuki, famous as Japanese Baba Vanga, predicted that on July 5, 2025, a huge crack will form in the sea between Japan and the Philippines.

This would cause a devastating tsunami, three times stronger than the devastating Tohoku tsunami of 2011. The series of sightings of oarfish after this could be a sign of some major natural disaster coming.
