According to a report by Tehran-based Faraz News, the cities where the ban has been imposed include Kermanshah, Ilam, Hamadan, Kerman, Borujerd, Robat Karim, Lavasanat and Golestan.

 

Similar bans were first imposed in the capital Tehran in 2019, sparking further criticism among citizens. Iranian authorities have claimed that walking dogs poses a threat to people's health. They also argue that walking dogs can lead to security issues. 

 

Action being taken against dog owners

However, he did not give any specific details about the move. According to reports, authorities are cracking down on dog owners violating the ban, leading to arrests and protests. The reformist newspaper Etemad on Sunday quoted an official in the city of Ilam as saying that legal action would be taken against violators.

There were no other updates to the report. Iran's state-run newspaper said the move was aimed at maintaining public order, ensuring security and protecting public health.

 

Why is walking dogs banned in Iran?

The ban is enforced through local directives and police orders as no national law has been passed. However, Iran's penal code and constitution do have certain articles that enable authorities to impose such bans, including Article 638 on public morality, Article 688 on threats to public health, and Article 40 of the constitution, which prohibits causing harm to others.
