News Topical, Digital Desk : A Delhi court has issued a significant ruling in the case of protesters arrested for raising slogans in support of Maoist commander Madvi Hidma during a protest against air pollution at India Gate in Delhi. Judicial Magistrate Aridaman Singh Cheema granted bail to six of the accused on personal bonds of ₹15,000 each, while the bail applications of four others were rejected.
The court granted bail to Mehul, Preetirani, Simran, Noi, Vagisha, and Kareena, stating that there was no compelling reason to keep them in judicial custody. According to the court, all digital evidence related to the case had already been seized, making it unlikely that the accused would tamper with the evidence. The court also clarified that no concrete evidence had emerged against these six accused of membership in any radical organization linked to the Naxalites.
Petition of 4 people dismissed
The court also rejected the bail applications of Gurkirat Kaur, Ravjot Kaur, Ayesha Wafia, and Avinash Satyapati. In the bail order, the judge noted that the slogans raised by these accused were directly in support of Madvi Hidma. Furthermore, there are records indicating that they are alleged members of the banned Naxalite organization, the Radical Students Union (RSU).
The court, while denying bail, also remarked that it would not be appropriate to release these accused at this stage. The court believed that if released, they might commit similar crimes again or there would be a risk of absconding. On this basis, their petitions were rejected.
Hearing of one accused postponed
The bail plea of Akshay E.R., another accused in the case, has not yet been decided. The court adjourned the hearing due to incomplete arguments. The plea will now be considered on Saturday.
This case came to light during a protest against air pollution at India Gate. It is alleged that some protesters raised slogans in support of a Maoist commander, prompting police action and arresting several people. This court decision will now determine the course of further legal proceedings in this case.
