Distressed by his girlfriend's breakup, a GAIL engineer committed suicide by consuming poison in a hotel

News Topical, Digital Desk : Deepanshu, a 27-year-old engineer working for GAIL (India) Limited, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at a hotel in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. Police said on Thursday that the deceased, Deepanshu, was a resident of Yoshalpur, Bareilly. He had been in a relationship with a woman for the past five years. The woman was a government teacher and currently posted in Pilibhit. Deepanshu was very upset that his girlfriend's marriage had been arranged elsewhere.

I broke up with the girl 6 months ago

Police informed that Dipanshu's girlfriend had broken up with him six months ago , after which he started living under mental stress. According to reports, Dipanshu had joined GAIL India Limited as an engineer in August 2025 and was posted in Delhi. A week ago, he left home telling his family that he was going to work, but after reaching Pilibhit, he stayed in a hotel. On Wednesday night, he consumed poison. When his health deteriorated, he called a friend. The friend immediately took him to the hospital, but Dipanshu died during treatment.

'Further action will be taken based on the investigation'

Naresh Tyagi, station house officer of Sungarhi police station, said, "The body has been sent for a postmortem examination. The forensic team has collected evidence from the hotel room. The investigation revealed that Deepanshu had been in a relationship with the woman for five years, who ended the relationship six months ago." Dr. Ramakant Sagar, Chief Medical Superintendent of the district hospital, confirmed that the young man died from consuming a poisonous substance. Police said that further action will be taken based on the postmortem report and the ongoing investigation.
