News Topical, Digital Desk : Diabetics have a two to four times higher risk of heart disease than the general population. To identify this early, researchers at King George's Medical University (KGMU) have developed a new biomarker called the TIG Index (Triglyceride Glucose Index).
'Tig index' may increase the risk of heart attack
Researchers studied 175 type 2 diabetes patients. Of these, 50 had previously experienced a heart attack, while 125 had not. They examined parameters including the Tighe index. It was found that patients with a high Tighe index had the highest risk of heart attack compared to normal diabetes patients. Their body mass index, blood sugar, cholesterol, and urea levels were also higher. A high Tighe index proved to be the strongest risk factor for heart attack.
Include this test in your routine checkup.
According to researchers, the Triglyceride Index is a simple, inexpensive, and reliable method that helps identify diabetes patients at risk of heart attack early. It can be included in regular patient checkups. The risk of heart attack increases in winter. By detecting the risk of heart attack, early measures can be taken and even treatment can be directed. Experts have recommended including this marker in routine testing. Let us tell you, the Triglyceride Glucose Index has been developed by KGMU researchers.
How to find the TIG index
In this test, the patient's fasting blood sugar and fasting triglyceride are measured. An index is then calculated using a prescribed formula. The resulting level is called the index. This simple and affordable test is available everywhere for just ₹100.
