News Topical, Digital Desk : The severe cold continues to wreak havoc in Delhi-NCR, and the weather has remained extremely harsh for the past three days. On Friday, strong cold winds made the situation even more difficult, forcing people in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad to shiver throughout the day. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog for Saturday, which is expected to affect visibility during the morning and night. While some sunshine did appear, its effect was insufficient to alleviate the cold.
Strong winds, mild sunshine and changing weather
Wind speeds in Delhi-NCR reached 12 to 15 kilometers per hour, further exacerbating the cold. The cold winds throughout the day made temperatures feel low, and people in open areas were seen shivering constantly. According to meteorologists, the effects of the Western Disturbance are gradually weakening, but the cold winds and humidity continue to exert a chilling effect. Dense fog in the morning and late at night may also impact road and rail traffic.
AQI improves, but pollution remains a cause for concern
One positive effect of the strong winds was a slight drop in the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi-NCR. The capital moved out of the red zone and into the orange zone, recording an AQI of 300. Noida recorded an AQI of 259, Ghaziabad 269, Gurugram 187, and Greater Noida 248. Temperature-wise, Delhi's maximum temperature on Saturday was 17 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 6 degrees Celsius. However, experts say this relief may be temporary, and pollution may rise again with the change in weather.
What will the weather be like in the future, what do scientists say?
According to the India Meteorological Department, a yellow alert is currently in effect, and a slight increase in maximum and minimum temperatures is expected in the coming days. Temperatures are expected to remain between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius until January 8th, but the weather may change after that. Meteorologists say that as the fog intensity decreases, sunshine may appear for a few hours during the day.
Meanwhile, temperatures continue to drop in the hilly areas of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh, and cold waves may intensify in some districts. Rain will persist in southern India, while minimum temperatures are expected to drop in eastern India in two days.
